If I showed Muslims 33 irrefutable and clear scientific Quran errors, would they leave Islam like I did?

Recently, I went through a question on Quora. The question was, ‘If I showed Muslims 33 irrefutable and clear scientific Quran errors, would they leave Islam like I did?

Surprisingly, the same question was posted on several other forums with no answers and refutations. I couldn’t find any website/forum that refuted the claims that were made.  So I thought of answering these questions myself with the help and permission of Allāh. You may read my answer here as well.

The claims made by the asker and the refutations made by me are as follows:

Thank You for showing me the ‘SO CALLED ERRORS!’ And NO, I WOULD NOT LEAVE ISLAM even after seeing your claims. However these aren’t irrefutable. I had earlier refuted your very first claim regarding INHERITANCE, but due to requests from several people, I’ll In shā’Allāh, try to refute all the false claims made by you. Your claim clearly shows that you either you haven’t understood the Al-Qur’ān and the concepts/meanings or that YOU ARE ONLY POSING to be an Ex-MUSLIM (Since you said 33 scientific errors from Qur’ān, yet you included Hadīths, PLUS your use of ‘;’ instead of ‘:’).

To Proceed:

CLAIM #1

❛Qur’ān 4:11-12, Hereditary laws dont add up.
wife 1/8 = 3/24
daughters 2/3 = 16/24
father 1/6 = 4/24
mother 1/6 = 4/24
total = 27/24
Even my 10 year old brother is better at maths than Allāh❜

REFUTATION:

You need to understand, that the verse is not talking about maths but inheritance.

INHERITANCE: There are six fractions of shares mentioned in the Qurʾān, viz; 2/3, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/3, 1/6.

The 2/3 share is,
for two or more daughters;
for two or more son’s daughters;
for two or more sisters;
for two or more half- sister;

The 1/3 share is,
for two or more of mother’s children;
for the mother in the absence of child, or son’s child or two or more brothers or sisters;
some times for the grand father when there are brothers and sisters,

The 1/2 share is,
For one of the four sets of females mentioned above when she is alone.
for the husband when his wife leaves no issue.

The 1/4 share is,
for the husband when the wife leaves children;
for the wife when the husband leaves no children

The 1/8 share is,
for the wife when her husband leaves children

The 1/6 share is,
for the father when the deceased leaves children;
for the grandfather;
for the mother when the deceased leaves children or two or more brothers and sisters;
for the grandmother when the deceased leaves children or two or more brothers and sisters;
for the son’s daughter when the deceased has one daughter;
for one or more half – sisters when there is a sister
for two or mother’s children;

❝Allāh commands you as regards your children (inheritance), To the MALE, a portion equal to that of TWO FEMALES; If (there are) only DAUGHTERS, two or more, their share is TWO-THIRDS of the inheritance; If only one, her share is HALF. For PARENTS, a SIXTH share of inheritance to EACH if the deceased left CHILDREN; If NO CHILDREN, and the PARENTS are the (ONLY) heirs, the MOTHER has a THIRD; If the deceased left BROTHERS or (SISTERS), the MOTHER has a SIXTH. (The distribution in all cases is) after the payment of legacies he may have bequeathed or debts. You know not which of them, whether your parents or your children are nearest to you in benefit. (these fixed shares) are ordained by Allāh, and Allāh is Ever All-Knower, All-Wise.❞
– Al-Qurʾān, al-Nisāʾ (Women), Chapter 4, Verse 11

❝In that which your WIVES leave, your share is a HALF if they have NO CHILD; But if they leave a CHILD you get a FOURTH of that which they leave after payment of legacies that they may have bequeathed or debts. In that which YOU leave, their (YOUR WIVES) share is a FOURTH if you have NO CHILD; But if you leave a CHILD they get an EIGHTH of that which you leave after payment of legacies that you may have bequeathed or debts. If the MAN or WOMAN whose inheritance is in question has left NEITHER ASCENDANTS NOR DESCENDANTS (Al-Khalala), but has left a BROTHER or a SISTER, EACH ONE of the two gets a SIXTH; but if MORE THAN TWO, they share in a THIRD; after payment of legacies he (or she) may have bequeathed or debts, so that no loss is caused (to anyone). THIS IS A COMMANDMENT FROM ALLAH; And Allāh is Ever All-Knowing, Most-Forebearing.❞
– Al-Qurʾān, al-Nisāʾ (Women), Chapter 4, Verse 12

❝They ask you for a legal verdict, Say, “Allāh directs (thus) about Al-Khalala (those who leave neither ascendants nor descendants as heirs). If it is a MAN that dies, leaving A SISTER but NO CHILD, SHE shall have HALF the inheritance. If (such a deceased was) a woman, who left NO CHILD, her BROTHER takes her INHERITANCE. If there are TWO SISTERS, they shall have TWO-THIRDS of the inheritance; If there are BROTHERS and SISTERS, the male will have TWICE the share of the female. (Thus) does Allāh make clear to you (His Law) lest you go astray. And Allāh is the All-Knower of everything.❞
– Al-Qurʾān, al-Nisāʾ (Women), Chapter 4, Verse 176

NOTE: Chapter 4, verse 12 refers to UTERINE (same mother, diff father) siblings while Chapter 4, verse 176 refers to FULL (same father and mother) or CONSANGUINE (same father diff mother)  siblings

INHERITANCE LOGIC:

1. SHARE OF HUSBAND
IF NO ENTITLED DESCENDANTS EXIST (ie; Children/Grandchildren), THEN, HUSBAND = 1/2
IF ENTITLED DESCENDANTS EXIST (ie; Children/Grandchildren), THEN, HUSBAND = 1/4

Note: ENTITLED DESCENDANTS = Sons, Daughters, Son’s Son, & Son’s Daughter. Daughter’s children are NOT treated as entitled descendants.

2. SHARE OF WIFE
IF NO ENTITLED DESCENDANTS EXIST (ie; Children/Grandchildren), THEN, WIFE = 1/4
IF ENTITLED DESCENDANTS EXIST (ie; Children/Grandchildren), THEN, WIFE = 1/8

Note: ENTITLED DESCENDANTS = Sons, Daughters, Son’s Son, & Son’s Daughter. Daughter’s children are NOT treated as entitled descendants.

3. SHARE OF DAUGHTER’(s)
IF ONLY ONE DAUGHTER (and NO Sons), THEN, DAUGHTER = 1/2
IF TWO OR MORE DAUGHTERS ONLY (and NO Sons), THEN, DAUGHTERS = 2/3 (to be shared equally between all of them)
IF both SON’s & DAUGHTERS EXIST, THEN, SON:DAUGHTER = 2:1

4. SHARE OF FATHER
IF ENTITLED DESCENDANTS EXIST (Sons, Daughters, Son’s Sons, Son’s Daughters), THEN, FATHER = 1/6
IF NO MALE DESCENDANTS EXIST (Sons, Son’s Sons), THEN, FATHER = 1/6  plus Residue (residue = remainder after all legal shares are distributed)
IF NO ENTITLED DESCENDANTS EXIST, THEN, FATHER = Residue

5. SHARE OF MOTHER
IF ENTITLED DESCENDANTS or BROTHERS/SISTERS EXIST, THEN, MOTHER = 1/6
IF NO ENTITLED DESCENDANTS EXIST. THEN, IF  NO  BROTHERS/SISTERS, NO FATHER, NO SPOUSE EXIST, THEN, MOTHER = 1/3
IF  BROTHERS/SISTERS, FATHER, or SPOUSE EXIST, THEN, MOTHER = 1/3 of Residue

6. UTERINE BROTHER/SISTER ( from same Mother, different father)
IF ONE UTERINE BROTHER/SISTER EXIST, THEN, IF NO ENTITLED DESCENDANTS and NO MALE ASCENDANTS (Father/Father’s Father etc), THEN, UTERINE BROTHER = 1/6 or UTERINE SISTER  = 1/6
IF TWO OR MORE UTERINE BROTHERS/SISTERS EXIST, THEN, IF NO ENTITLED DESCENDANTS AND NO MALE ASCENDANTS (Father/Father’s Father etc.), THEN, ALL UTERINE BROTHERS & SISTERS = 1/3

Note: If there are UTERINE Brothers/Sisters IN ADDITION to FULL Brothers/Sisters (same father/mother), then they share in the residue.

7. SHARE OF SON’S DAUGHTER
IF ONE SON’S DAUGHTER EXIST, THEN, IF NO DAUGHTERS EXIST, THEN, IF NO SON’S SON EXIST, THEN, SON’S DAUGHTER = 1/2
IF SON’S SON EXIST, THEN, SON’S DAUGHTER = HALF SHARE OF SON’S SON (i.e., Son’s SON share: Son’s DAUGHTER share = 2:1)
IF TWO OR MORE SON’S DAUGHTERS EXIST, THEN, IF NO DAUGHTERS EXIST, THEN, IF NO SON’S SONs EXIST, THEN, SON’S DAUGHTERS = 2/3 (equally between them)
IF SON’s SON EXISTS. THEN, SON’S DAUGHTER = HALF SHARE OF SON’S SON
(i.e., Son’s SON share: Son’s DAUGHTER share = 2:1)

8. SHARE OF FULL BROTHER/SISTER
(Full Brother/Sisters are brothers/sisters from the same FATHER & MOTHER)
Brothers & Sisters inherit ONLY when there are NO Descendants (Son/Sons, Son’s son etc.) and NO Ascendants (Father/Grandfather etc.)

The arabic word “AL-KHALALA” is used in the Quran, Chapter 4 – Al-Nisa, Verses 12 & 176, which is translated by almost all the translators of the Qurān to mean “Ascendants & Descendants,” thus giving rise to the interpretation that they include “Parents and Children”. However, many scholars have preferred to classify the word as meaning “Father or Son,” thus excluding the female components of both Ascendants and Descendants (mother & daughters).

IF NO FULL BROTHER and NO FEMALE ENTITLED DESCENDANT EXIST, (daughter, Son’s daughter etc.), THEN, IF deceased was MALE, THEN, FULL SISTER = 1/2 (if only ONE)
IF NO FULL SISTER and NO FEMALE ENTITLED DESCENDANT EXIST, THEN, IF deceased was FEMALE, THEN, FULL BROTHER = 1 (if only ONE)
IF TWO OR MORE BROTHERS & SISTERS, THEN, FULL SISTERs = 2/3 (shared equally between them)
FULL BROTHER’s & SISTER’s (combination) = 2:1
IF NO FULL BROTHER EXIST but FEMALE ENTITLED DESCENDANT EXIST, (daughter, Son’s daughter etc.), THEN, FULL SISTER = 1/6 (if only one)
IF NO FULL SISTER EXIST but FEMALE ENTITLED DESCENDANT EXIST, THEN, FULL BROTHER = 1/6 (if only one)
IF FEMALE ENTITLED DESCENDANT EXIST, THEN, FULL SISTERS & BROTHERS = 1/3 (share equally)

9. CONSANGUINE SISTER (Sister from same Father but different Mother)
Consanguine Sisters inherit ONLY when there are NO SON’s or Son’s SON(s) AND NO FATHER AND NO FULL BROTHER.
IF ONLY ONE FULL SISTER AND NO CONSANGUINE BROTHER, THEN, CONSANGUINE SISTER (if only one) = 1/2
CONSANGUINE SISTER(s) (if two or more) = 2/3
IF ONE FULL SISTER AND CONSANGUINE BROTHER(s), THEN, (CONSANGUINE) BROTHER:SISTER = 2:1

10. TRUE GRANDMOTHER
True Grandmother is defined as the one whose line of connection with the deceased is NOT interrupted by a MALE between two FEMALES. They are entitled ONLY if the FATHER or MOTHER do not exist.
Eg; Mother’s MOTHER, Father’s MOTHER
Father’s Father’s MOTHER, Mother’s Mother’s MOTHER
TRUE GRANDMOTHER = 1/6

11. TRUE GRANDFATHER
True Grandfather is the one whose line of connection with the deceased is NOT interrupted by a FEMALE between two MALES. They are entitled ONLY if the Father or Mother do not exist.

Eg; Father’s FATHER
Father’s Father’s FATHER
Mother’s FATHER
Mother’s Father’s FATHER
TRUE GRANDFATHER = 1/6 IF MALE DESCENDANTS EXIST (Son, etc)
TRUE GRANDFATHER = 1/6 + Residue IF FEMALE descendants exist
TRUE GRANDFATHER = Residue IF NO Male/Female descendants exist

12. UNCLES & AUNTS (Father’s/Mother’s Brothers & Sisters)
Uncles and Aunts are ONLY entitled in the absence of GRANDPARENTS. This means that they will receive shares ONLY if there are NO Parents AND Grandparents because Grandparents do not inherit when the Parents are living. They will also NOT inherit if the children (or children’s children) of the deceased are living. Proportions here are also in the ratio of 2:1 for Male:Female.

13. NEPHEWS & NIECES (Children of Brothers/Sisters)
Nephews and Nieces are ONLY entitled in the absence of Brothers and Sisters. This means that they take the shares of the Brothers/Sisters of the deceased in their absence. Hence a Nepew/Niece will receive what his/her parent (Brother/Siuster of the deceased) would have received if he/she was alive. They will also NOT inherit if the children (or children’s children) of the deceased are living. Proportions here are also 2:1 for Male:Female.

CLAIM #2

❛Qur’ān 11:5 “we think with our heart”
what happened to the brain?
Bukhāri, 8:345 confirms men use their chest to think, not the brain❜

REFUTATION:

I am not sure which book are you reading, because, Chapter 11, verse 5 says,

TRANSLATION 1:
❝They wrap their chests to hide from Him. But even as they cover themselves with their clothes, He knows what they conceal and what they reveal. He knows what lies within the hearts.❞
― Al-Qur’ān, Hūd (Hūd), Chapter 11, verse 5

TRANSLATION 2:
❝Look! They fold up their breasts to hide [their secret feelings] from Him. Look! When they draw their cloaks over their heads, He knows whatever they keep secret and whatever they disclose. Indeed He knows best whatever is in the breasts.❞
― Al-Qur’ān, Hūd (Hūd), Chapter 11, verse 5

TRANSLATION 3:
❝No doubt! They did fold up their BREASTs, that they may hide from Him. Surely, even when they cover themselves with their garments, He knows what they conceal and what they reveal. Verily, He is the All-Knower of the (innermost secrets) of the BREASTs.❞
― Al-Qur’ān, Hūd (Hūd), Chapter 11, verse 5

To fold up one’s breast’ is an idiomatic phrase, meaning to conceal one’s spite within one’s heart.

CAN YOU PLEASE POINT ME OUT from any of the THREE TRANSLATIONS, the words you had shared? ❛we think with our heart

Your SECOND CLAIM, that Bukhāri, 8:345, confirms men use their chest to think, not the brain is also a lie. Bukhāri, 8:345 speaks of How As-Salat (the Prayer) was
prescribed on the night of Al-Isra. Read here: http://sunnah.com/bukhari/8

CLAIM #3

❛Qur’ān 37:6 says, stars are guards against devils, so they won’t eavesdrop❜

REFUTATION:

I am extremely sorry to say this again, but you’re reading some wrong book.
Chapter 37, verse 6 says,
❝Indeed We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment, the stars.❞
― Al-Qur’ān, al-Ṣaffāt (The Ranged Ones), Chapter 37, verse 6

The verse that you should have quoted is Al-Qur’ān, al-Ṣaffāt (The Ranged Ones), Chapter 37, verse 8

CLAIM #4

❛Qur’ān 37:10 says, meteors are projectiles fired at devils. This is false. They are simply masses of particle debris which brightens after entering the earths atmosphere❜

REFUTATION:

The verse is as follows:

❝ And if any is able to snatch a fragment, he is pursued by a piercing flame.❞
― Al-Qur’ān, al-Ṣaffāt (The Ranged Ones), Chapter 37, verse 10

In Arabic the word shihab-i-mubin literally means a fiery flame. The same thing has been called shihab-i-thaqib (flame that pierces through darkness). This may or may not necessarily be a meteor, for it is just possible that it may be some type of rays, such as cosmic rays, or even a stronger type which we have not been able to discover as yet.

CLAIM #5

❛Qur’ān 65:12 says, there’s supposedly 7 planets. This is false. Our solar system has 8 planets plus 5 dwarf planets. 8 + 5 = 13.❜

REFUTATION:

The verse is as follows:
❝Allāh it is. He Who created seven heavens, and, like them, the earth. His commandment descends among them. (All this is being stated so that you know) that Allāh has power over everything, and that Allāh encompasses all things in His knowledge.❞
― Al-Qur’ān, al-Ṭalāq (Divorce), Chapter 65, verse 12

The like of them❜ does not mean that He created as many earths as the heavens, but it means that He has also created several earths as He has created several heavens. “Of the earth” means that just as this earth, which is inhabited by man, is serving as bed and cradle for the creatures living on it, so has Allāh made and set other earths also in the universe. which serve as beds and cradles for the creatures living on them. Moreover, there are clear pointers in the Qur’ān to the effect, that living creatures are not found only on the earth, but also in the heavens.

CLAIM #6

❛The moon is further away than stars;
Qur’ān 71:16 says, “moon in the midst of 7 heavens”
37:6 says,”stars in the lowest/nearest heaven”
This is false. The moon is the nearest natural object to us, so it is NOT further away than stars❜

CLAIM #7

❛Qur’ān, 71:16 “placed the moon as a light”
The moon has no light. The word reflected (in`ikaas) does not appear in this sentence❜

REFUTATION:

You have assumed that that the moon is further in distance to the earth than the stars to the earth. What you failed to understand from these verses is that Allāh claimed that the sun is the source of light ❛sirājan,❜ and the moon is the reflection of light ❛nūran.❜  The moon is not the source of light.

The Qur’ān never uses both terms interchangeably. Here we should ponder: if both lights were identical in nature, why were different Arabic terms used to describe each light source?

On the other hand, the word “star” comes from the Arabic root ❛najm,❜ meaning ‘appearing, emerging, visible.’ Stars are also referred to, by the word “thaqib,” which is used for that which shines and pierces the darkness with light: self-consuming and burning.

Now, verse 71:16,
❝and made the moon a light in their midst, and made the sun as a (Glorious) Lamp?❞
― Al-Qur’ān, Nūḥ (Noah), Chapter 71, verse 16
indicates that the light whether comming from the sun (the source), or the moon has no limits. The light can travel from one heaven to the other freely.

The verses did not say that the moon belongs to the seven heaven,s or is further in distance to the earth than the stars to the earth.  The verses clearly talks about the light that comes from the sun and from the moon traveling freely through the seven heavens.
❝…a light in their midst…❞

CLAIM #8

❛Qur’ān 36:38 says, “sun runs to a fixed resting place”
This is false; the sun doesn’t rest anywhere. It stays on its own axis.
Only a geocentric flat earth could assume this.❜

CLAIM #9

❛Sahīh Bukhāri 4:421 adds, “the sun remains under God’s throne until its allowed rise again in the east❜

REFUTATION:
Term AppointedRefer to the above screenshot. The closest meaning would be ❛term appointed.❜ ❛Term appointed❜ may either mean the place where the sun will ultimately come to a halt, or the time when it will come to a halt, i.e., it will extinguish.
Scientists have confirmed that at sometime in the future, the sun beams will be encircled within its halo-photosphere, chromosphere and corona, consequently losing its brilliance, and thus coming to an end.
The true meaning of this verse can be determined only when one attais the full and exact knowledge of the realities of the universe.

Regarding Sahīh Bukhāri 4:421, ‘mustaqar’ means a spatial destination, that is, a point on orbit which is taken as the start and end point. The hadīth tell us, that this place is beneath the ‘arsh (the Throne of Allāh). Now if you claim that this point can be taken at any point on the orbit, let me inform you that the state of the ‘arsh of Allāh (generally referred to as Divine Throne), as understood from the Qur’ān and Sunnah, is that, it surrounds all that we know as the masses of the land and expanses of the sky. All these masses and expanses along with planets and stars, without any exceptions, are enclosed within the ‘arsh- and the ‘arsh of Allāh holds the entire cosmic universe inside itself. If seen from this angle, the sun is, in all conditions and all the times, simply under the ‘arsh. Period.

CLAIM #10

❛Qur’ān claims in 21:33, “And the Sun and Moon; both of them float along in its orbit”
This clearly implies that the sun goes around the earth❜

REFUTATION:

Float along, ‘IN ITS OWN ORBIT.’ The earth in its own orbit, around the sun, while the sun in its own orbit, around the centre of the Milky way. Nowhere does it say, that the sun goes around the earth.

CLAIM #11

❛Bukhāri 4:494 says that the sun rises between the 2 heads of satan❜

REFUTATION:

The exact hadīth is as under:
Ibn ‘Umar reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying:
❛Do not intend to observe prayer at the time of the rising of the sun nor at its setting, for it rises between the horns of Satan.❜

The Prophet (ﷺ) forbade praying at two times.
1. After the Fajr prayer till the sun rises and
2. After the `Asr prayer till the sun sets

Satan’s horns is not literal. The two horns represent these times, for these were the times of prayer for idolators and pagans.it is like when you separate your hands, and your standing in an area where the sun is about to rise, and set the sun seems like it is rising between your hands, that is all he meant.

CLAIM #12

❛Qur’ān 41:11 says that the universe and earth are contracting.
This is false. Science tells us the universe is expanding ❜

REFUTATION:

Qur’ān 41:11 actually says,
❝Then He turned to the sky, and it was smoke, and said to it and to the earth, “Come, willingly or unwillingly.” They said, “We come willingly.”❞
― Al-Qur’ān, Fuṣṣilat (Elaborated), Chapter 41, verse 11

1. By heaven is meant the whole universe, as becomes obvious from the following sentences. In other words, turning to the heaven means that Allāh turned to the creation of the universe.

2. By smoke is implied the initial and primary stage of matter, in which it lay diffused in space in a shapeless, dust like condition before the formation of the universe. Scientists of the modern age describe the same thing as nebulae, and the same also is their view about the beginning of the universe: that is, before creation the matter of which the universe was built lay diffused in smoke-like nebulous form.

3. The universe was created in a Big Bang 13.7 billion years ago, is still expanding today. The verse actually speaks about the ‘CAUSE’ behind the BIG BANG. As stated by you, and agreed upon by everyone, the universe is expanding. The Qur’ān told us about this expansion 1400 years before it was discovered.

❝And the heaven, We built it with craftsmanship and We are still expanding.❞
― Al-Qur’ān, al-Dhāriyāt (The Scatterers), Chapter 51, verse 47

Do you remember how a rose opens up? That is, the outer petals move outwards more than the inner petals? Imagine that those petals have galaxies on them and that we are at the center of the rose. Now imagine this rose opening up; the farther out the petals are the faster their recession away from the center (where we are). Well this is exactly how the universe expands around us; the farther out galaxies are from us the faster their recession away from us.
Redshifting❝If the heaven ripped and it were a rose like paint…❞
― Al-Qur’ān, al-Raḥmān (The All-Beneficent), Chapter 55, verse 37

Here Allāh assures skeptics about Paradise: if the heaven ripped open like a rose then Paradise will as surely contain so and so. Today we know for sure that the universe is expanding around us like a rose.

Do you remember how an ambulance siren sounds like when it approaches you? And how it sounds like when it recedes from you? The sound pitch changes, right? Similarly when a light source approaches you or recedes from you its colors change. If it is approaching you the colors shift towards the blue, and if it is receding from you its colors shift towards the red; the faster it recedes the redder it appears. Today we know that galaxies are rushing away from us from redshifting of their light. The more distant galaxies are the more reddish their colors appear to us. When you apply paint the colors’ intensity is not even but rather it changes with distance.

Similarly the more distant galaxies are the more reddish their colors appear to us, that is, there redness is a function of distance. This is because the farther galaxies are the faster they are receding from us (like a rose). The Quran describes it as: “Rose like paint”, that is, it’s color varies with distance.

CLAIM #13

❛Qur’ān 31:34 says, only God knows whats in the womb.
This is false. We have technology called sonographer allowing us to look at the baby’s gender.
We also have sex selection clinics to determine gender❜

REFUTATION:

The refutation to your claim comes from the following verse:
Regarding Gender:
❝These are the keys of the unseen, whose knowledge Allāh alone has kept for Himself, and no one else knows them unless Allāh tells him about them.❞
― Al-Qur’ān, al-Aʿrāf (The Elevations),Chapter 7, verse 187

The knowledge of the womb comprises more than just the gender and also includes the color of the child, whether that child would be happy or not, that child’s means of livelihood, etc. No doctor or clinic can provide you with this knowledge.

CLAIM #14

❛Qur’ān 2:125 or 2:149 says, bow in the direction of mecca.
Allāh is obviously ignorant, since places like hawaii and LA are on the opposite side of earth
Hence could pray in any direction. same with astronauts❜

REFUTATION:

For people living in Hawaii or LA, the qiblah is decided using the Sun. For millennia, navigators have relied on the sun to know their direction. Simply knowing where the sun rises and sets can get you in the general direction of Mecca. Today, we have over a dozen different Android, Windows, iPhone and iPad apps, that uses the built-in GPS and compass to point in exactly the correct direction of Mecca, no matter where in the world you are. Regarding outer space, the normal rules of practice doesn’t have to be followed while travelling.

CLAIM #15

❛Qur’ān 5:96 says “Anything you catch in the sea is lawful for you, and all food from it, for your enjoyment”
This is false. Many sea creatures are deadly. For example, the puffer fish, poison dart frog, marbled cone snail, blue ringed octopus and stonefish.❜

REFUTATION:

The verse says, ANYTHING YOU CATCH, and not anything that gets caught by your fishing net/rod. We know which of the sea ceatures are not deadly and can be used as food. Would you go and catch the puffer fish, poison dart frog, marbled cone snail, blue ringed octopus and stonefish for eating?

CLAIM #16

❛Qur’ān 2:22 says, “sends down water from the sky and by it brings forth fruits”
This is ignorant. Fruit/plants needs photosynthesis from the sun to grow.❜

REFUTATION:

Photosynthesis is the series of reactions plants use to manufacture sugars from atmospheric carbon dioxide. There are two distinct phases to photosynthesis: the light reactions and the dark reactions. Water plays an important role in the light reactions.

Read more : Photosynthesis

CLAIM #17

❛Bukhāri 10:512 says, that change of weather at winter and summer is from the breath of hell❜

REFUTATION:

The hadīth is not literal. One of the least known facts about hell is that the hell consists of two parts.
1. Zamhareer [Extreme Cold]
2. Horuur [Extreme Hot]
Allāh the Elevated rendered what is in this world, in terms of heat and cold, related to the heat and cold of Hell. The example was given to alert one’s inner self to the intensity of the heat and cold of hell in the hereafter.

CLAIM #18

❛2:22,2:164; 6:99; 7:57; 8:11; 10:24; 13:17; 14:32; 15:22; 16:10,16:65; 20:53; 22:63; 23:18; 25:48;
27:60; 29:63; 30:24; 31:10; 32:27; 35:27; 39:21; 41:39; 43:11; 50:9; 56:68-56:70; 78:14; 86:11
In all these verses, not once is ocean evaporation or the water cycle mentioned.
All verses claim, that water comes from the sky and from Allāh❜

REFUTATION:

Qur`ān is a book of signs and not SCIENCE. However, here’s water cycle FYI.

Read here: Miracle of Water
and here: Water Cycle and The Seas in the Quran

CLAIM #19

❛Qur’ān 53:49 says, “the Lord of Sirius” (singular form)
This is false; the star sirius is a double star.❜

REFUTATION:

Sirius is the brightest star in the heavens, which is also known by the names of Mirzam al-Jawza, al-Kalb al-Akbar, al-Kalb al-Jabbar, Ash-Shira al-Abur, etc. In English it is called Sirius, Dog Star and Canis Majoris. It is 23 times as luminous as the Sun, but as it shines over eight light-years away from the earth, it appears to be smaller and less luminous than the Sun. The Egyptians worshiped it, for it made its appearance at about the time of the season when the annual floods were beginning in the Nile; the Egyptians believed that Sirius caused the Nile floods. The pagan Arabs also held the belief that this star influenced human destinies. That is why they worshiped it as a deity, and the Bani Khuzaah, the neighboring tribe of the Quraish, were particularly well-known for being its devotees. What Allah says means: Your destinies are not made and controlled by Sirius but by the Lord of Sirius.

Regarding being used in Singular form, read about Sirius here: Sirius
Even wikipedia speaks of it in singular form, though it mentions Siius A nd Sirius B

CLAIM #20

❛Qur’ān 55:33 says, humans wont go into space unless they acknowledge Allāh
This is false. Dozens of non-muslims and non-theists went into space without leave or permission from God❜

REFUTATION:

❝O company of jinn and men, if you have the power to go beyond the bounds of the heavens and the earth, go beyond them! Yet you will be unable to go beyond them for that requires infinite power.❞
― Al-Qur’ān, al-Raḥmān (The All-Beneficent), Chapter 55, verse 33

The verse is not speaking of space. Your claim about Non-Muslims and Non-Theists clearly shows the lack of understanding of Arabic language and the meaning of verses. The heavens and the earth: The universe or the kingdom of God. The verse means to impress this: It is not in your power to escape Allāh’s grasp. When the time for the accountability of which you are being foretold comes, you will be seized and brought before God in any case wherever you may be. To go out of God’s reach you will have to flee from the universe of God for which you do not have the required power. If you feel that you have the power, then you may use that power if you so will.

CLAIM #21

❛Qur’ān 16:45 or 29:37 suggests that Allāh sends earthquakes only to non-muslim nations.
This is false. The higest death tolls from natural disasters this millennia were muslim countries.
2004 indonesia tsunami; 2005 kashmir; 2003 bam iran❜

REFUTATION:

While 16:45 speaks of THOSE WHO DO EVIL, 29:37 speaks specificall of people of Median, Prophet Shuaib’s tribe. Nowehere in the above mentioned verses does Allāh says that He sends earthquakes only to non-Muslims. Earthquakes are among the signs which Allāh uses to warn His slaves. Refer al-Israa’, Chapter 17, verse 59

CLAIM #22

❛Qur’ān 16:68 says bees eat from all variations of fruit.
This is false. Bees eat from nectar and pollen❜

REFUTATION:

This claim again proves that you haven’t read the Qur’ān. While 16:67-68 speaks of bees, 16:68 speaks of humans.

CLAIM #23

❛Qur’ān 7:189 says, Humans were created from a single man.
This contradicts evolution❜

REFUTATION:

No. It does not. Read: Evolution

CLAIM #24

❛Sahih Bukhari 4:55,543 says that early humans were 90ft tall and humans are declining in height ever since.
This contradicts evolution as the oldest human remains are shorter in height to us today.❜

REFUTATION:

4:543 regading height:

The height of Adam was sixty cubits according to this hadith but other hadith reports clarify that it was so in the heavens.

Allāh’s Apostle (ﷺ) said, “The first group of people who will enter Paradise, will be glittering like the full moon and those who will follow them, will glitter like the most brilliant star in the sky. They will not urinate, relieve nature, spit, or have any nasal secretions. Their combs will be of gold, and their sweat will smell like musk. The aloes-wood will be used in their centers. Their wives will be houris. All of them will look alike and will resemble their father Adam (in statute), sixty cubits tall in the heavens.”
(Sahīh Bukhāri, Book 55 Hadith 544)

Commonly used translation misses the translation of the last two words in the original. Scholars like Imam Abu al-‘Abbas al-Qurtubi and lately Shaykh Anwar Shah al-Kashmiri have said, that it means that the inmates of Paradise will have the height of their father Adam who was sixty cubits in the heavens.
This clarifies the first point that Adam’s height was 60 cubits in the Paradise according to this hadīth.

CLAIM #25

❛Qur’ān 17:68 states that hurricanes or blizzards are punishments from god for non-muslims.
This is false. The 2 deadliest blizzards IN HISTORY happened in muslim countries (Iran and Afghanistan)❜

REFUTATION:

Pleases efer to my refutation of CLAIM #21. But for your convinience, I am writing it again. It speaks of THOSE WHO DO EVIL, and not of non-Muslims.

CLAIM #26

❛”1 of the wings of a house fly has cure for disease”
Sahih Bukhari 4:54:537
This is false. Wings of flies have no cure whatsoever❜

REFUTATION:

This Hadīth contains a Truthful scientific claim. Read here: Cure in Wings of Flies
here: Cure from Flies Wings and here: Flies wings have cure

CLAIM #27

❛”Black cumin is a cure for every disease except death”
Sahih Bukhari 7:71:592
This is false. Can it cure a Cancer? Aids etc.?❜

REFUTATION:

Yes! Black cumin can treat cancer. Read here: Black Cumin and here: Black Seed and Cancer

Yes! It treats HIV AIDS as well. Read here: HIV and Black Seed and here: Black Seed cures AIDS

CLAIM #28

❛Qur’ān 51;49 says, “everything created in pairs”
What about asexuals?❜

REFUTATION:

Hermaphrodite species are those that have both the male and female organs and can reproduce by themselves due to those organs. “The term is sometimes used inaccurately to describe reproduction modes in hermaphroditic species which can reproduce by themselves because they contain reproductive organs of both sexes.”

Certainly, these species do not contradict at all the Glorious Qur’ān. On the contrary, they further prove Allāh Almighty’s Divine Claims, because here we have a group of species that still need to reproduce by having the pairs in them. Yes, it would be one specie reproducing by itself, assuming that this is scientifically accurate to begin with, since much of these studies are still unconfirmed theories, as shown below, especially in the microscopic world, but be as it may, each specie in this group, nonetheless:
Is still a representation of the pairs.  It could be one or the other or both.
Wouldn’t be able to reproduce if it didn’t have those two organs in it.
Still produces both males and females.
Therefore, this group of species certainly testifies to the Divine Miracle of the Glorious Quran, because the pairs exist among them.

Parthenogenesis species are asexual or sexless.  They are believed to not have any sex in them:

“Parthenogenesis (from the Greek παρθένος parthenos, “virgin”, + γένεσις genesis, “creation”) is a form of asexual reproduction found in females, where growth and development of embryos occurs without fertilization by a male. In plants, parthenogenesis means development of an embryo from an unfertilized egg cell, and is a component process of apomixis. The offspring produced by parthenogenesis are always female in species that use the XY sex-determination system.

Parthenogenesis occurs naturally in some invertebrate animal species (e.g. water fleas, aphids, nematodes, some bees, some Phasmida, some scorpion species, and parasitic wasps), and vertebrates (e.g. some reptiles, fish, and very rarely birds and sharks) and this type of reproduction has been induced artificially in other species.

Parthenogenesis is seen to occur naturally in aphids, Daphnia, rotifers, nematodes and some other invertebrates, as well as in many plants. Komodo dragons and the hammerhead- and blacktip sharks have recently been added to the list of vertebrates—along with several genera of fish, amphibians, and reptiles—that exhibit differing forms of asexual reproduction, including true parthenogenesis, gynogenesis, and hybridogenesis (an incomplete form of parthenogenesis). As with all types of asexual reproduction, there are both costs (low genetic diversity and therefore susceptibility to adverse mutations that might occur) and benefits (reproduction without the need for a male) associated with parthenogenesis.

The offspring of parthenogenesis WILL BE ALL FEMALE if two like chromosomes determine the female sex (such as the XY sex-determination system), but they WILL BE MALE if two like chromosomes determine the male sex (such as the ZW sex-determination system), because the process involves the inheritance and subsequent duplication of only a single sex chromosome. The offspring may be capable of sexual reproduction, if this mode exists in the species. In many cases, parthenogenesis occurs when one gender (typically the male) is unavailable in the general vicinity. Once males are again available, the parthenogenesis-created females would be capable of mating with the males and creating normal offspring. Read here: Parthenogenesis

Thus, these species are NOT ASEXUAL because they still do produce males and females.

CLAIM #29

❛Qur’ān 18:86 says, sun sets in muddy pool next to a tribe.
Thats impossible. The sun is 1 million times bigger than earth and doesn’t set on earth anyway❜

REFUTATION:

The key to understand this misinterpreted verse is تغرب في عين (disappear in a murky water)

تغرب (taghrub) throughout the Glorious Quran means to disappear, or to cease to be seen.
So تغرب (taghrub) here doesn’t necessarily mean the sun is setting.  It rather means that the sun disappeared from Dhul-Qarnayn’s naked eye, especially since the neighborhood was mountainous; Refer 18:93

A recommendation to whoever wants to argue Qur’ānic verses is to first understand the genre of text they are reading, study all the possible explanations available, and prepare their argument using all existing resources.

Qur’ān is not in need of science to prove its authenticity. It is not, and should not be treated as, a scientific textbook. However, scientific signs do exist in the Quran. If studied as signs that lead to enquiry, and not definitive facts or miracles, these signs can serve the purpose of developing the human intellect, encouraging people to follow the teachings of the Qur’ān: to read, enquire, and research.
